Judges Writeup
With a theme of winter we expected snow, and that's what we got...loads of it...brrrr.
Thanks to all who entered - just under 1000 in total!
The winner is bravo charlie who's turned the camera on its side for a scenic winter scene with great depth. The cool snow has been balanced by the warmth of the distant mountains coated in golden sunlight. Great shot.
Second place goes to DoncasterPhotographer for his traditional outdoor activity shot of two kids sledging. It's what kids dream about in winter and you can see these two are totally happy with the snowfall. Converted to black & white to suit the scene and a shallow depth-of-field throws the snowy background out of focus perfectly.
Third place is sensorman's village scene, taken from a high vantage point. The smoke from the chimneys provides the necessary outlines around the winter's gloomy-looking dark buildings. You can almost smell the burning fires.
Well done you three and to all those who were shortlisted. Better luck next time everyone else and we look forward to seeing your entries in the next competition.
