An all time record number of entries were submitted for this competition, resulting in well over 1700 photos!

The fact is it's easier to photograph flowers as most of us have a garden or access to a garden and the stunning prize of two Olympus Pen E-PL3 cameras helped.

It may be easy to photograph flowers but recording them artistically can be a challenge as many of you have found. Considering the huge number of photos the shortlist is relatively small, so those shortlisted deserve a huge well done.

And to the winner - Martinl. We loved the brilliant colours of this poppy field. The low angle and the tight framing have delivered a shot with impact. Poppy fields are not easy to photograph well as the results can often look cluttered and messy, but the backlighting has picked out detail in the stems and radiant petals. The crop is just enough to give us the knowledge its a busy field, but the key focus is on the center three heads while choice of aperture and focal length ensure the background is just out of focus enough to avoid a distraction.

Second place is Cole's wildflower shot with a slow shutter speed to record the falling rain. Nature recorded brilliantly. The flower head is positioned in the upper left third so compositionally it suits the rule of thirds and subtle detail in the white petals is recorded faithfully thanks to Cole's careful exposure control.

Congratulations to Martinl and Cole, both of whom win a Olympus PEN E-PL3.

To be in with a chance to win one of three Kodak HERO7.1 printers be sure to enter our April competition themed 'Your Favourite Location' here.
