'One' January Competition

We had a great response to this competition with its theme "one". The short-list contains the inevitable collection of lone figures standing in landscapes and urban scenes as well as some more imaginative scenarios. We also have a range of subjects balanced well in frame. So choosing winners was a challenge. The judges decided that gerdom's sport fan sat in solitary position in a stadium met the theme perfectly. It's very clearly one! The carefully position of the seated fan in colour contrast with the chairs ensures full visually impact.

Second place is sitan1's bold monochrome scene of a single beacon placed centrally in the shot with the low viewpoint making the path lead your eye to the important upper centre part of the frame. The blurred sky emphasises the position even more thanks to the use of an extreme neutral density filter.

Third place goes to Johnny Graham for the winter scene with the autumn leaf clinging on for life. while a frosty surround and contrasting blue makes the brown leaf stand out., while the back lighting adds a warm glow.
