Happy New Year to you all, and thanks for getting involved in the Samsung Christmas competition with your festive photos.

It was a difficult choice between picking something jolly or seasonal, but in the end we went for a more sobering photo with a very emotive candid of a street beggar, surrounded by people ignoring him and his dog as they engross themselves in the festive season.

We like the balance of elements, the tight crop to avoid seeing the faces of most of the passing people and the way attention is focused on the beggar with his Christmas attire - it's a powerful image.

Thanks to all who entered and congratulations to the winner, Karlmarx Rajangam, who receives a state of the art Samsung Multiview MV800.  Well done also to all who were shortlisted.
