A fine collection of travel pictures to choose from and an easy shortlist to create as these clearly leapt out from the page.
The winner goes to homer911 for his image titled “lost” The centre placed subject with arms stretched provides an iconic silhouette surrounded by a balanced spread of mist which is cut through by the centre placed sun and resulting flare. The balance of the image emphasises the almost insignificance of mankind in the power of nature.
Second place goes to Cole for his interpretation on the travel theme. Woman with the unusual combination of a suitcase and flowers - we're left wondering where she's going and why. A great texture effect adds to the surreal nature of the image.
TommyStr's “Bollywood Butcher” takes third place. The smiling face of the foreground subject juxtaposed against a more intense stare from the figure behind. We like the use of depth of field and the processing style which emphasises the contrasting red of the meat and green of the building.
Awatson submitted two great polar bear shots for the competition. We like this one better. The mother and cub look attentively at the passing ship in a well balanced composition that's well exposed and leaves enough space to show the broken ice and fragility of the location.
Fifth place goes to serger's snow white coral dunes on Socotra island in the Yemen. He was lucky to catch a fleeting moment when the camel appeared and spotted him before it ran off. A classic travel style image that would be used to illustrate the wilderness of such places.
Our sixth winner is MargaridaP's Balooning over Cappadocia. Travel The balloon has similar colours to the mountains it travels over, and the low angle sun adds an overall colour to bring a harmony to the image. One of the most tranquil forms of travel shown at its best.
Well done to all the winners who each receive a foliopic web package. And to all the short-listed. We look forward to seeing your efforts in the next competition.
