Ricoh R1

Ricoh have been making this camera for some time now, and it is easy to understand why. It has a super 30mm, and 24mm wide panorama lens (that does give a wider picture than other 'panorama' compacts), as well as an ultra slim body casing. Watch out for the red-eye reduction strobe - the delay before the flash fires often makes people turn away thinking you have taken the shot, so warn them in advance!

Ricoh GR1

This is a top of the range camera for those aiming for top quality photos. The camera oozes class, and the wide 28mm autofocus delivers excellent images, suitable for both slide and print film. The body casing is very stylish and strong (magnesium alloy), and the feature list is pretty comprehensive. Good for reportage, landscapes and indoor photography. If you don't need a zoom lens and want one of the best, seek it out!

Ricoh AF-28

Slim design and well laid out controls make this camera an attractive buy at this level. It has a 28mm wide-lens - great for indoor and outdoor shots of the gang! The casing is plastic throughout, but strong enough to take out and about, and small enough to carry. Would be worth searching the dealers' shelves at this level.
