I really like this camera! I find it so easy to use and it always performs well. Admittedly, you could get better shots with a "proper" DSLR with a top class lens, but this camera can do most things that a DSLR can do. The zoom is quick and, providing you can keep a steady hand (or use a tripod), you can get good detail from full zoom images.

There is a bit of purple fringing evident at times, but no more that you would get from some DSLR cameras.

As with a lot of Canon cameras the image can sometimes appear a little "soft", but nothing that cannot be fixed in a photo editing programme.

It uses 4 x AA batteries, which can be very handy when out and about - you just go into a shop and purchase some! I personally use rechargeable ones, and always keep a spare set with me, but they last for ages!

It is a bit annoying that the lens cover does not seem to fit properly and I am always concerned that I am going to lose it whilst out and about, however I haven't yet!

I don't know if you can still pick one of these up new, but if not then secondhand, and if you can, I would recommend it as an excellent starter camera. It handles and feels like a DSLR without the hassle of changing lenses.
