FinePix S5 Pro

Rating: 4.5 out of 54.5 out of 54.5 out of 54.5 out of 54.5 out of 54.5 out of 5

Was named 'European Advanced Camera of the Year 2007-2008' by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA). Their official comment was "The special qualities of Fujifilm's Super CCD SR Pro sensor provide the wide dynamic range, low image noise and contrast control that make the camera stand out from the general DSLR market. Fujifilm has used a rugged body, faster processing, more flexible shooting methods, improved autofocus and advanced flash metering modes. Ultimately, though, it is the S5 Pro's ability to reproduce a massive range of tones that makes it the winner of this category."

bought this when my Minolta dimage 7i died
so it was an upgrade without doubt.
I was sceptical of digital vrs 35mm still and wanted to buy smart.i was disappointed with my dimage in all but lens quality and image quality everything else was pretty mediocre..i felt
I reserchedhow a digital camera took images and that light capture was directly related to quality of picture not pixel count which just makes the picture bigger and sometimes more grainy too.

bang the Fuji sensor a chip trying to be a roll of film mixing large and small sensors together to give at that time an unheard of lattatute of achieveable recordable image which id been used to in my x700 and not found in the dimage 71,bleached highlights and lost shadows were common..

so whith the cash I had I bought ,got a drive and a wide range lens to use as a general lens to prevent dust on the sensor and off we went together.
nice big and chuncky loved the feel the weight solid brick yes, nikons easy button lay out where you need them buttons with no girly picture modes either.a camera for a photographer to use not plonk into a bloody mode .like some of the cameras advertise as a selling point...really,putt of point more like .....
so how did it handle ?
the camera 11/10 as a body as ive said above..its functions lay out the same
but
after now many years of uses like any product all in not gold
it has a slow and not veryu accurate focussing set of sensors, things are easily missed and fast subjects ,well bless its doesn't know it happened.ive used prefocusing on a point in good old 35mm days to get a chance of anything fast...
the buffer is crap 4 raw shots after one another at 2 frames va second and its all over
its write speeds are asleep ,
and it loves batterys ...AND SHARP IMAGES IT JUST DOESNT DO,SOFT IMAGES ARE THE NORM HERE..
ONLY 6MP WITH A VERY SOFT SENSOR CLIPPED 12MP INTROPLIDATED IMAGE......TRIFFF
ITS GOT SOME GOOD IMAGE MODES RELATING TO FILM TYPES BUT THIS IS ONLY AVAILABLE IN JPEG MODE ,NOT RAW AND WITH NO EXTENDED SENSOR RANGE ...THANKS FUJI...
HOWEVER
FOR PORTRAITS ;WEDDINGS;LANDSCAPS ANIMALS STILL OR SLOWLY MOVING ITS COLOUR CAPYURE DEPTH OF IMAGE ARE A DELIGHT.
ITS A CAMERA FOR THOSE WHO LIKE TO TAKE THERE TIME ,COZ IT WILL...
ITS BASED ON THE NIKON D200 OK,
IF FUJI HAD CARRIED ON AND MADE A PRO 6 USING THE D3OO WOULD IT BEEN WORTH IT?

IN A NUTTSHELL NOT REALLY....
THE SENSOR CONCEPT WORKS REALLY WELL TWO SETTS OF SIX..

FOR THIS GOOD CAMERA TO BE GREAT IT NEEDS

DAMN FASTER INTERNAL CASHE RAM AND **** LOADS MORE OF IT 6 FRAMES A SECOND IN FULL RAW FOR 6 SECONDS PLEASE
THE SENSOR NEEDS TO BE UPGRADED TO THE SAME QUALITY OF THE D800E NO FILTER BUT WITH TWO SETTS OF TWELVE SENSORS
AND INTERNAL STABALISING DEVICE ON THE SENSOR
A SENSOR SHAKE MODE FOR DUST
A NEW SENSOR ARRAY OF FOCUSING SENSORS ,ONES THAT ARE NOT ARTHRITIC AND WIDE SPREAD AND WITH A AUTO TRACKING FEATURE WOULD BE NICE
A WIDER RANGE OF ASA SPEEDS 25 TO MUST FASTER WITH LESS NOISE
A QUALITY SETTING AT THE 25 AND 50 ASA SETTING PUSHING SATURATION AND SHARNESS QUALITY TO THE MAX AS WELL

TOO MUCH DONT THINK SO LETTS JUST HOPE THE D400 GETTS SOMEWHERE DOWN THIS ROAD NIKON NEED IT WITH OTHER MANUFACTURES PANCING THEM IN THE MIDD SEMI PRO MARKET AT THE MOMENT..

SO ON REFLECTIOON IVE ENJOYED USING HER AND HAVE ENJOYED THE JOURNEY...
IF YOUR LOOKING FOR SPEED IN ANY DEPARTMENT PUT IT DOWN IT WILL PISS YOU OFF
IF YOUR LOOKING FOR SOFT GOOD RANGE OF TONES AND BIG AND CHUNKY .YEP 10/10

MY RATING A 6.5/10 WAITING FOR MY D400
REGARDS R SKEDGELL
