User Reviews
I obtained this camera in December 2012, I tend to choose a camera after its been on the market for 2-3 years and this way you know about any positives or negatives as most have been discovered, I would always go for pentax because of the availability of lenses for the range, I've used pentax for around 40 years so already have a wide selection of lenses and these are all compatible with the kx (with limitations)
all photo's are good and crisp with excellent definition and balance, the weight is light (even with 4 AA batteries which increases the weight significantly), movies work well for me too although i've only tried it a couple of times so far.
I think anybody choosing this as an entry into slr photography would be well please whilst acomplished hobbyist users (like myself) will find it very responsive and capable, expert users will also not find it lacking but better models are available now, obviously they are much dearer but if thats what you require then you'll probably be happy to pay for the extra pixels and features, but to be fair I don't think I could use extra features yet, several things do need mentioning......you will definately need high spec AA NIMH batteries (if you put low grade nimh in you will only get a few photo's out before the camera shuts down but with high power 2,400 MA they go for a day of average use (in my case 200 shots) but i'd always carry a charged spare set anyway.
i'd also use a seperate quality flash (necessary for BIG shots in the dark)
the user freindly menu's are great, as is the big 2.7 lcd display screen.
i've used quite a few of my lenses with it all with good results......so if you've used pentax for a while like me then you'll be happy with the results,
lastly I didn't pay a lot for it (but this is because mine had a fault which I was able to fix easily) a fair price would be double the price I paid so about £250- £280 would be fair, hope this review helps you decide.
