Inspired by her own daughter’s birthday celebrations, the Australian photographer Vee Speers staged a series of eery portraits of children in fancy dress. Her young subjects appear in a range of attire, some playful, like the astronaut in his boxers (far left), others more disturbing, like the grey-haired young girl (this page) staring blankly into the camera, clutching a bundle of gothic dolls Vee Speers.
