Thanks for all your comments. I'd seen that line in Adobe Camera RAW below the image and wondered why it was in blue and underlined, but never twigged that I could click it. Doh! Anyway, having told it to open an image as sRGB and 300ppi it now seems to be set on sRGB for all images BUT still prefers 240ppi. I know it's not the end of the world, but is it possible to make it default to 300p...

Thanks, guys If you use the latest version of Picassa (3.6), it should support both Nikon's RAW format & Adobe's .DNG format The program icon shows as Adobe DNG converter so assume I'm just using that bit. I've been able to `open' the dng files in Picasa (yes..am using 3.6). That sounds great....not sure I want to spend a whole lot of money on fancy software yet. Will see if raw gi...

Michael, There are two new pieces of software from Canon. The one above is Digital Photo Professional, which is only for 1D, 1D Mk II, and 1Ds owners. The second, which supports all the above plus D30, D60, 10D and 300D is called EOS Viewer Utility. I have only downloaded DPP, so can't comment on EVL.

Panic Over. Finally worked out that I wasnt saving the up to date ACR download file into the right destination. Adobes download instructions are not very clear, or perhaps I am a bit thick. Thanks to everyone who tried to help. Derek

Aperture is a raw converter AND digital asset management program. Unless you do all your raw conversion with PS and then import into Aperture, I don't see how you can incorporate Aperture into your workflow. In any case Aperture 1 is dreadful, slow clunky, and unstable. Aperture 2, on the other hand is much better - better that Bridge/PS IMO.

Thanks for posting that and sharing... Just for reference here's a link for my original post on the Fred Miranda site forums: my thread on FredMiranda boards I have posted in in various places (rob galbraith, nikonians, etc.) and some have other discussion and follow ups. However, as soon as our wedding schedule calms down and I get caught up on wedding work and have some free tim...

I never had a problem with the 300D and RAW until I updated to Camera Raw 3.4 and I could always revert back to 3.2 to open the files. 3.5 has sorted out the problem once and for all (I hope). Give RAW a go - it's worth it.

Thank you Jo; CS3.3 is the latest version of CS3 with some interesting upgrades, notably in Camera RAW. I am aware that the G10 is not supported in any Camera RAW version yet, but my question referred more to the update policy of Adobe i.e. whether the RAW codes of newer cameras are also updated to the less than latest versions of their software. The possible upgrade to CS4 is a good tip; I'm...

Thanks everyone - responses not unexpected! Just curious, I was, about the JPEG/Camera Raw angle: now I know. When I open a RAW file in Bridge the default is CS4, and the RAW adjustment options are available as per normal. On the rare occasion I shoot JPEG (which I know is 'lossy') I tend to convert to PSD or TIFF for processing purposes. But I'm not terribly familiar with the "open in Ca...

Try version 3.2 of ACR - according to the Adobe site it supports the D50. Another thing to consider is if you have installed the Nikon capture software ( you may have a trial version with the camera ) it can stop full fuctionality of Adobe Camera Raw due to a little file it leaves in the file formats folder. Agree about Capture One - much better , nice interface and top notch results.
