Then why introduce an annoying pop-up flash to a camera? I took the above line from a paragraph which i thought mentioned prosumer & compacts. So i was referring to compacts only

If you buy Canon, you'll need to use Canon lenses! Nikon has kept the same lens mount for the past 51 years, so we can use nearly all our oldest lenses on the newest higher-end bodies, such as the D90. The D90 is good enough to keep - without the nagging feeling that you need to up-grade it. On a more practical level, you'd be wise to choose whichever feels nicer to use. Then you'll b...

eos 550d

Hi pappillon, I have just bought the 550D a few weeks ago and am very pleased with it. I am using it with the kit lens at the moment but it is very sharp with everything I have shot so far. Previously, I had an Olympus which I was sad to sell but as they don't seem to be moving on very fast I decided to change camps.

Not had experience of the 7D and I'm sure weather proofing etc is something of an advantage - I recently owned a 5Dmk 1 but sold it towards my next purchase of the mark2. I have a 550D which has been likened to a baby 7D but at a fraction of the cost, the IQ is superb - I only use L glass on it and the ISO is really good up to about 800 when some negligible noise creeps in after that. I can onl...

I have the F/4 IS version and 1.4x converter on my 550D - stunning results and no loss of AF either. The price was right so I went for it and so light, it's rarely on a tripod.

If it doesn't feel 'right' in your hands you will not use it as often as you should and you will kick youorself for making the wrong choice. Go into a camera shop and play with them both. Don't just pick them up and hold them to your eye ...... play with the buttons and see how they feel and how easy they are to find with your eye to the viewfinder. Then go home and think about what you want...

canon 60d

I can't see the price dropping a lot more as the 550D is around £650 or less, the 60D £829 and the 7D £1160, only time I can see them dropping more is when they bring out a new replacement for one of them.

cant be right??

Give me a ubiquitous AA battery every time or even a lithium Iron rechargeable AA battery I wouldn't argue with that. If all else fails you go into any shop and buy new AA's. Which is what is good about the Canon 550/580's

Cameras aimed at the pro market are not necessarily any better optically than those aimed at the enthusiast. The difference tends to lie in the way that they are put together and the materials that they are built from. Enthusiasts usually pay for their kit and few get much of their outlay back from selling the pictures because photography is their hobby. Consequently they tend to look after the...

50D currenetly on e bay for £499 on a BIN, 40D for £384 BIN. Had a 550D and found IQ spot on but found the body size a bit limiting in my big hands, hoping to go for either a 7D or 5D Mk2 if selling copyright on a particular image goes to plan!

Thanks for cheering me up. I'm sorry to hear I cheered you up, SM - it wasn't intentional. Just be clear, I'm not saying that the A55 is the only solution - I'm just suggesting that, at the price, it is the best. An alternative would be the A580 which is also very good (Gary Friedman reckons it's fantastic - much better than the A700, which it should be as it's 4 years newer). I still re...
