Web Sharpening

I'm curious about that too. So I just did a quick test and did not get the result I was expecting at all! I sent the same file from raw converter to Photoshop twice. First time with raw sharpening on 0, second time on 8. Comparing them side-by-side in Photoshop the sharpened photo looked sharper as you'd expect. I then resized (bicubic sharper best for reduction) both of them in Phot...

This has been a really interesting post. I've tried all the different USM setting given and have found that Keiths 50-50-10 works great on landscapes and Johns 100-1.5-0 is spot on for portraits then blending with the opacity etc. I followed Matts instructions for sharpening and it works a treat. Keith, when are you going to do that sharpening tutorial? That would be great Keith as I h...

Its one of the debates I have been participating in for years on various sites and with various photographers and guess what, I don't care either way any longer. I at one time would get very hot under the collar if someone took at swipe at my photography and said "but its not real photography", and on other sites some people would criticize my art for having to much photography in it. Decided t...

PixelGenius Photokit Sharpener... One of the best plugins you'll ever use. I was introduced to this plug-in fairly recently, and would happily recommend it. Produces excellent results.

Hi Mike I just use Photoshop Elements 5, for opening raw files from my D200, seems to the best for me. I have tried Capture1, couldn't get on with it, also have CaptureNX, works ok for me, but i like to keep things simple. Do basic adjustments to the raw image, then use Elements to do sharpening etc. Try taking a image in raw and playing with it, its the best way to learn! :) Mark

CS2 old or new?

And you'll need CS3 to run ACR 4.1 which is quietly amazing - as it incorporates some pretty nifty sharpening (including edge masks) and several other cool features.... Elements 5 also runs ACR 4.1 for elements with the same nifty edge mask sharpening and a lot cheaper than CS3 ;)

Trying to simplyfy things: if at all possible use a quality tripod with a strong head. Always use cable release set camera to mirror up or mirror delay mode if it has it. A lot will depend on the lens but most are at the optimum at F5.6 to F8. If you do landscapes learn about hyperfocal distance but very crudely focus 1/3 way into the scene. Always use Raw, apply both capture sharpening ...

you cant put a disc in that contains raw files, and open them up in lightroom. i think that is a bad move from adobe. as i have loads of backed up dvd,s containing raw files, that i cant do anything with in lightroom. Not strictly true (I presume you're on a PC, apparantly offline media is better supported on Macs). Two options I can think of: 1. Use Import Photos from Disc and select opti...

Yep, the JPEG when opened in Photoshop is the size that you need to watch - anything below 48MB will be rejected by Alamy. As long as you save a tiff as a maximum quality JPEG (which is setting '12' on the PS slider), it will reopen at the same size as the tiff. You can upsize the image either in Capture One Pro or PS - Alamy will accept either. In Photoshop you need to use the 'Bicubic S...
