The iso is set to iso 200 for a reason. Base iso has a lower dynamic range than 200. ISO 200 hundred is the optimum minimum iso on your kx.

If you really do want a DSLR then I'd consider only Canon and Nikon - Pentax's range of lenses is too small. It depends on what the purpose of the camera is and if it is for a main or second camera. Looking at that Sigma report Ken, I was suprised how well it came out, so I looked up a test on my Nikkor AF-S 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II DX and that came out as one of the best lenses from Nikon. It costs £100 more than the Sigma though. I am suprised the review of my lens was so good since my experience isn't quite so gushing. Still a very good lens though.

The Canon 17-85mm f4.0-5.6 IS USM is about $250.00 to $300.00 second hand on Ebay and Amazon.

Have just got mine......well about 3 hours ago. Started my Pentax use with the K110D then the K200D and now the K5; can't wait for the battery to be fully charged so I can start playing with it!!
