Sounds like the SD14 is a bit like the DP1 - quirky but with the ability to deliver in the right circumstances.

I think brand new babies rarely look good photographed alone. Prefer to see a parent in shot. Strawman's advice is spot on re the camera and lenses.

Sigma SD14

I'm also curious about the DP1. If it is a good camera, and the lense / sensor work well together, and they get the price right, then I think they could have a winner. Looks like it could be a competitor for the Ricoh GR1D. I saw a suggested US price of a around $1,000 for the DP1. I think in the UK it would have to sell for below £400 to have a chance. I'll be interested in seeing the re...

Hi i use the Fuji IS-1 infrared camera with a B+W 092 filter. you shoot at normal speds and apertures, during the summer i was using F8 @ 200th. 28 to 300 mm lens. look at my portfolio, "frenchie44" all the IR pics were taken using the Fuji.

The only short primes Sigma do are Macro lenses. These are fine for portraits, but do carry a higher cost than standard primes. The major weakness of the Sigma bodies is that you have a limited range of lenses to chose from as there are no 3rd party lenses available (Canon lenses can't be used). For portraits the 24-60mm F2.8 EX DG might be worth considering as it has a nice focal lengt...

Has it been done before? PhaseOne were looking at doing a special batch of sensors for one of their backs a few years ago. They needed firm orders for a "quantity ?" before commiting to production. Not sure if it happended.

which DSLR?

Dont forget that with the D60 you are a bit limited for Auto Focus as it doesn't have the drive in the body, which means you can only use ( AF-S and AF-I ) lenses for that, as already said try holding a few different ones

Just because you pressed the shutter release doesn't mean that you created the photograph. I could set up a complex image and let my 4 yr old daughter press the shutter release - does this make her a good photographer? That makes her a good daughter. :o)

Which marque

Thanks Cambirder, that's a really generous offer. Sadly, the 5D is out of my range. Maybe when I get something in a while (I'm not going to rush into it and make a mistake) we could meet up and compare? Best wishes, David
