Studio lighting set up
Ahhh this is one thing about the EPZ forums, the Resurrection of threads from the last decade all down to the way the forum brings back search results. I've done it myself, answered a question only to discover the thread was 6 years old.

Lighting problem
Thanks everybody for your comments and suggestions. The actual studio has been set up just under 12 months now. I originally went on a Calumet Studio lighting course to get an idea of the basic setup. To be honest, the girl that is taking the photos at present has not looked after the equipment and the backdrop is certainly not ideal as it shows in the photo. It was originally set up with a ...

Thanks Jim! I will look for those things. Good point about making it secure, hadn't really thought about that. I think I'm going to borrow a speedlite to see how I can manage with 3, before deciding!

So they come to a forum and ask for advice - sounds reasonable to me... But then get driven away by people who have a lot to say but nothing to contribute. Sad. So you have been 'lumbered' with the job 'cos the other person left. Rethink the brief and represent it to your management... and take a chill-pill friend. Enough said.

Thanks again, Not really keen on the painted backdrops, I think they look a bit tacky. Any suggestions on setting up the ligths to get that gradient effect? Mark

FILTERS-->RENDER-->CLOUDS Cheers again Barry. Had a 30sec play with 'Backdrop Designer' and it looks fairly promising. 3 very quick examples: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/davebeveridge/6706_w_bg1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/davebeveridge/6706_w_bg2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/davebeveridge/6706_w_bg3.jpg

Why I HATE Umbrella Lighting...
Hmm... while I do agree that Umbrella lighting can be flat and dull if not used correctly, I have to argue that I've seen some fantastic work done with an umbrella light.

DIY Backdrop Support
My "studio" backdrop consists of a steel lighting stand (used for lighting rigs at gigs/DJ's shows) very solid metal and extendable which goes from about 4 ft to about 9ft very easily. I then bought some large clamps for attaching things and some different coloured material sheets from charity shops for it. Works perfectly. Total cost: about £45
