The noise in the G9 raw files even at 400 is touch high Can't disagree with that. It is bad.

I agree with Jestertheclown. I used to upload images for votes as I thought was a good way of seeing how good/bad my photos were. Nothing could be further from the truth. I now upload for critique as this is the best place to get feedback on images. Thanks to feedback I received on 1 image of Jamie Archer I was able to go away and have an other go and came back with a far better image.

I was concerned about wattage as the sales advisors for a shopping site told me to ensure I had high enough wattage especially for mannequin images. I guess he was probably trying to sell me stuff.

Loads of helpful advice from everyone so good luck hope it goes well for you. The best advice I got from a freind who was a very succesful pro sadly now deceased is the best shots come when you have taken the time to get to know your subject and your client. He gave as an example kids, talk to the parents as they may have allready got favourite photos so you see what they like, and play with ...

Hi Nathan, This link will take you to it. Once you're there, you might like to bookmark it. There's also a link posted in a box with some info in the column on the right. I think I'm right in saying that it's always there. Alternatively, just keep an eye open in the forums. There's usually a thread running somewhere in there relating to it. And if none of that works . . . . . . just ask...

Heaven forbid the owners sell them on ebay for decent money and you miss out at the charity shop Paul Not at all, dealers walk into charity shop and strip the shelves, they don`t want or need the stuff, its simply sold on for profit and people here wonder why they can`t find bargains.

The Nikon was likely chosen over the Tamron for the D3x poster since it was a Nikon product that was being advertised. Terry.

I have decided to go for another property now. It is quite a bit more expensive but is in a good location and it has 9ft high ceilings. Lucian It would seem that Lucian has taken on board at least one piece of the the advice given i.e. a larger property would be needed to house his backdrops etc. Presumably during the "It's suddenly gone quiet" period Lucian had been busy searching fo...

Starting out

More power generally means more options - for portraits at home, you rarely need much power though as you're lighting small groups from a small distance. A nice big softbox may be ideal in a studio, but you may find yourself knocking vases off shelves with it in someone's house ;-) there's a huge following for Elinchrom D-Lites, these are recommended by most people who've used them and e...
