I guess it all comes down to your budget. For all round nature photography I think the Sigma 50-500 takes a lot of beating. Having said that, I mostly use a 600mm with a 1.4x converter (if needed) for birds, plus a Sigma 150mm macro for most other things. A 70-300 VR is ideal for those situations when you do not want to be carrying too much weight. That sorts out the nature photography, but eve...

Manuel, We welcome you. As has been said you really ought to start with some uploads, what gear you have or would like, your experience etc. Pen Pals (your term) are not necessary on this site as the forums and a PM would be all you need to connect with many of us on this site -- just as we are doing now. There was no intention for any of us to be rude and as for my advice I would give to a...

Surely there are enough long exposures on each page of the gallery to have a category of our own.. I mean Panarama shots even have their own box... oooOOOOoooo.. a real panarama is cool but anyone can crop a pic like that.. Come on re-think the categories please? Enable ...

That's down to the people i the groups really Phil - it's up to them to keep things going. I was talking to myself for ages on the off camera flash thread, then people came on board ;-) start your inspirational photography group and see what happens - choose whether to have one photo per forum thread so that thread just discusses that photo, any new photos get a new thread - or just to have ...

What is a landscape? It is interesting to note what is actually classified as a landscape in the PP. In the Great British Landscape Competition the winners were an animal picture and a Lochscape and the runners up were all seascapes. No rolling hills and green fields! Obviously any picture that has the slightest hint of land in it is a landscape. My understanding of the English langua...

There is bias towards lanscape photography on this website. Well, the landscape is always there around you, be it country or urban landscape. To me, the urban landscape is the more interesting. However, both need some exploration and patience for the best result. So does street photography. jas

That's best discussed in the V5 upgrade thread. This thread is for discussing a specific change to the voting system that was trialled a couple of months ago.

Landscapes can be serious studies giving personal feelings for the place or travel pictures that will appeal to a much wider audience. Composition and exposure comes with experience. It should be borne in mind that colour shots of lanscapes do not always need brilliant sun and clouds. A good project to do is impose a set theme for yourself within a limited area and take time looking, It can be ...
