Speaking for myself. I find the following very helpful: Location is very important. Watch out for the best possible background. Lighting. Be mindfull of the position, intensity of your main light, the sun. I find shooting on shaded areas or during overcast days best for portraits. Texture. Put texture on your images. Leaves, grass, cobblestones, rusty metals and the like help give extr...

Well, thanks to you all for taking the time to post messages. All of it will be useful, cheers. I shoot on 35 mm print film, with a Minolta 9000 plus Minolta lenses. My daughter usually does run a million miles when I get the camera out, but on this occasion, its for her benefit, and saves me paying 80 to get them done by someone else. (Long story) I will sort out a grey card for checking ...

if you are too close it will effect the exposure ie. white outs! Strangely enough if you meter with the reflector in place this can not happen as the camera also reads the light that is coming from the reflector. The whole idea is that the reflectoe effects the exposure, why else would you use it? Mike

I'm JSO and don't have lights so i work with natural light so i can really only go as high as F2.5 (crappy camera built in lense!) Its either that or get a shed load of noise if i bump the ISO up!

I see you are a relativley new member. Hi So it could be that you are starting out on a voyage of photography. I would suggest buying the best fash you can afford, the reason for this is because as you get better you might well want to upgrade your camera and accessories, having the top of the range flash (or near top) now will eliviate the extra expense of upgrading that bit of kit at a late...

It's really a matter of your own style and taste. I've used 50mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.8 [which I would prefer over a 50mm] and currently use a 60mm f/2.8 macro lens for portrait. Great results, very sharp and the clarity is excellent. Being a macro means i can get in as close as I like too. I have also used a Tamron 17-50mm for portraits on the 50mm end. Also a great lens. You don't have to use a p...

I agree with the above comments, be relaxed, keep the model comfortable and relaxed, shoot plenty of film and keep studio lighting simple. Appear confident, this will keep the attention of your model. Generally use a medium to slow film. Good Luck

What is a landscape? It is interesting to note what is actually classified as a landscape in the PP. In the Great British Landscape Competition the winners were an animal picture and a Lochscape and the runners up were all seascapes. No rolling hills and green fields! Obviously any picture that has the slightest hint of land in it is a landscape. My understanding of the English langua...

The shiny screens a re a bit of a problem especially if you are going to be out and about so if you want to go apple I suggest you get it converted to a mat one, or just buy a computer from another vendor the user interface and applications are far more important than the OS or vendor of the ma...
