Pentax K-7 vs....?
If you were in the market for a DSLR at the K-7 level and had no company bias or loyalty, which other models would you be looking at with the K-7? The D90, the equivalent Sony, the Canon 500D, 450D.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions and links. I'll do a bit more digging. By the way, does anyone have a link to a Cobra website that currently works? I can't find one that carries any info about flashguns or has a viable Contact Us facility. Regards, Milo:)

Canon 50D vs Pentax K-7.
I'm still using a K10D and more than happy with it. As strawman says why constantly refresh your camera? Unless you have a bottomless money pit you'd be better off upgrading lenses and other equipment, and if you do have a bottomless money pit why not go all out and get a Hasselblad?

K7 Pentax
What no Phase 1 digital back Matt how could you.:D Compare on price, yes fair point. Talking about reviewers getting accused of bias, I read another site (where they bicker on every nuance of spec and review) their D3S review. They would appear to have complaints from Nikon, Canon etc users each complaining about a bias for/against Nikon in the review. The bit that impressed me the mo...

Pentax K-X or Nikon D3100?
....but the principle remains the same... "While anyone contemplating buying a camera and not already "tied in" to a particular brand may be interested in the opinions of other users, I think we do have to caution against placing too much significance on those opinions. The fact of the matter is that most of the products by most of the major manufacturers are now so good that there is ver...

Pentax K-5 vs. Panasonic GH2
Long-time lurker, first time poster.... I've been shooting a Pentax K20d alongside my wife's Pentax K-x. I needed an upgrade in both still shooting (AF performance in particular) and video (manual controls, IQ). The Pentax K-5 and Panasonic GH2 were the finalists. They each have different strengths obviously, but I decided that I needed improved video before I needed improved stills. So the ...

What is wrong with Pentax?
The K10d is indeed fabulous, I love mine. I bought it after much deliberation about 15 months ago, and I haven't been disappointed. That said I've not invested in any lenses as my dad has plenty of (old) K-mount glass I can borrow, and now I find myself wondering if this wouldn't be a good time to jump ship, with no lens investment to protect. I look at Nikon and see a huge array of Ni...

Ok there is an SMC K-mount zoom lens that I've seen at a local camera shop. I'll find out and ask your opinions soon. Thank you for the wonderful feed back. Sam Ash

Why not Pentax ?
The Pentax lens range is definitely lacking in tele lenses and, as you say, a lot of the third party manufacturers don't offer the K-mount. But I'd guess that Pentax have upgraded their focus system in the new model. It's worth checking on that though because Canon didn't upgrade their AF when it introduced the 5DII leading to a lot of complaints.

Pentax 35mm SLRs
Thanks for that jimbot - a pdf of the manual to m.wells@extraspace-storage.com would be really helpful. Many thanks indeed, Matt

Just a slightly different view: Given the understandable constraints upon your budget, think about going for either the entry level Nikon or Canon and retaining the remainder of your cash for essential accessories (e.g. a tripod), perhaps an additional lens, and an ND/ND Grad filter kit. That way you will be getting more "photography power" for your available money. Good luck.

Need advice on camera choices
I would also like to add Rebbeca that as you want to photograph wildlife the Olympus can use the Olympus Zuiko 70-300 which in converted terms is a massive 140-600 and costs mere £300. Pentax, Nikon and Canon (OK I'll include Sony) users can only dream of such focal lengths at that price!
