This morning I've been re-working some of the busiest sections of the site. The result is the reader gallery is now up to 100% faster when browsing between pages.

This speed improvement will soon be implemented in the other galleries such as Editor's / Readers choice etc. Also, the home page should load a lot quicker too.

Together with the new server we'll be getting soon, the site should be a lot quicker.

Excellent Job Will! As a database programmer, I can appreciate exactly what you just did. And it is working at least twice as fast.

Even quicker - does this mean it will anticipate you pressing 'Next' and have already prepared the next page before clicking ?

No it recognises your Click, builds a list of similar shots and puts the next 60 in for you.

Great work Will. Although I seem to get a lot of images in where it said that the image was deleted. Is that a new trend on EPZ (to delete pictures as soon as possible, but showing thumbnails in the gallery). Or is this a side effect of your work?

Not yet Smile Prefetching pages would be great AJAX feature and once we get new server it will be probably one of the things to do.

Jacqueline: You shouldn't be seeing any messages about photos being deleted now. If you do, please post the URL here for us to have a look at, thanks.

What has happened to the number of pages in a filter.?

If you selected a category for a time period of say, 1 day it used to say how pages you needed to scroll through in order to view them all.

Now you do not know how much further you have to go.

Sorry, we've had to lose that to gain the 100% performance increase.
