Quote: Is there any truth in that the 5D blows highlights very easily?
Only from those that aren't using it properly.
The 5D probally has amongst the best dynamic range out of the Canon line up.

I nearly order 1 unit last week, but looking at the AF problem now, it is better to wait for a while before I jump in.
Spoke at length last night to a guy who took his brand new 1dMKIII to the TT races and spent the whole time cursing the focusing issues and finally resorted to using a 5D to get the shots he HAD to get.
It makes you wonder how many people who have problems have not RTFM yet.
It seems like there is quite an advanced set of different settings etc.
Perhaps the problem is between the floor and the shutter release?
There were reports of an AF issue on the 1D MkIII pre-production units but that was supposed to be fixed by a firmware update before shipping.
There is a huge problem of folk not reading the manual. Modern cameras are just too complex to use them effectively without reading up on their features and functions.
Waiting for the new model to get any last minute gremlins fixed is probably a good idea......and may even save you a few hundred pounds.
Quote: Has any one received one yet?
I think Geoff Simpson been using one for a couple of weeks
I've had mine for 4 days now, absolutely no issues here. There's certainly some DOA units out there, but for the most part it's users getting used to the tracking system. Most of the bird photographers who did have issues, have now picked it up and are happy (more than happy)
I can't remember many new cameras that didn't have internet scare stories upon release.
I borrowed one and had a quick play with one at the Bollywood oscars green carpet, it amazed me how big and bright the view finder was and the effortless al-servo compared to my old mkii.
It feels like a complete different camera
It's in a new generation on the old models, that's for certain, I will wait until the rush and price settles before upgrading.
I was lucky enough to get my MK III last week, no problems so far. I did a wedding with it yesterday and I was blown away by the results.
One problem though, maybe for another thread, but how do you install the latest RAW plugin into Photoshop??
I suspect there isn't a plugin yet!
I hope Lightroom gets an update soon.

So much for a 5D being no good for sports then
Might have to wait a bit longer for a used 1d II too.
He's been using a 5D to shoot for 3 racing teams since the camera's release.
I rang my "supplier" today and he said mid to late July.
So that's September then!
I bet it is a brilliant camera but until it is everywhere and sub £2K I will manfully struggle on with my 1D Mk2
Well, I had a text out of the blue on Friday to say it has been dispatched.
It is due today,(Monday).
I wonder what the serial number will be and which firmware it will have.
I will have to see if I can count the shutter actuations too, to make sure I am not getting someones reject!
