West Brom and Everton made my day today. I still can't believe it every time Liverpool lose - they seem to good to keep losing like this. There is no way they will ditch KKK as they seem a good team just not getting the results and they will probably have 2 cups in the bag. The big questions of the season for me, when its all over are:
What the hell happened to Spurs and Liverpool - they looked on real top form early on but spectacularly imploded?
and
How many points behind city would Utd have finished had Tevez not gone on his extended golfing trip?
Oh and jondf - as a city fan I honestly would bet on Utd to win the title - the Etihad result is in the balance (a Manchester derby could go either way and we are used to getting humiliated at the worst moments), and Utd really have the better run in despite us being 6 goal difference to the better and we have to go to Newcastle who are in the form of their lives at the moment and have a place to secure in Europe. I wont count a single egg till they've hatched even if we beat Utd. At least the title can't be secured when United come to the Etihad - that would have got a bit tasty when the trophy comes out :o/
Quote: I always felt that if Revie had given them a bit more free rein they should, and probably would, have won more trophies. I am an out and out Magpie, but in 1973 I had to supoort Sunderland for THAT one match
Yep, an incredible game in which the goalkeeper proved why he could have got a job as an acrobat in a circus.
I agree that LUFC could have had a better trophy count if Revie had been a bit more relaxed but other forces were always conspiring against Leeds United. Three games that stand out were - 1) The FA Cup semi vs Chelsea in 1967 in which Leeds had two goals disallowed - 2) The last league match of the season vs Wolves in 1972. Leeds had just beaten Arsenal in the FA Cup Final and were forced by the FA to play Wolves the following Monday night. The double was at stake but alas, we lost - 3) The infamous 1975 European Cup Final vs Bayern Munich......referee subsequently found to be bent.
Quote: No gloating, lads, re the result at Anfield. Times can be hard in all walks of life. When I heard that result I could not believe it.
No, of course not.
Doesn't happen very often that Newcastle finish above Liverpool. (at least up till now anyway
, the future, who knows. :-( lol)
They game yesterday was so one sided as to be funny. lol If we get a top scorer or two, or the one's we have start to find the net regularly, and stop hitting posts and crossbars, we could be quite dangerous. ![]()
Quote: Looking forward to seeing highlights of the [Manchester] Utd v Everton game tonight.
Once again, and on behalf of all fans who support some other United, I've taken the liberty of placing 'Manchester' in the appropriate place.
Seeing as the only 'Utd' playing Everton yesterday was Manchester Utd, I didn't feel the need to put Manchester in the sentence. Sorry if it confused. ![]()
I think Tevez leaving may have cost (Manchester) City the title, though it's impossible to say for sure. But he is a class player (if not a player with class) who can change a game almost on his own, and to have that option in the team when they were losing and drawing some games could have made the difference. :-/
I'm very surprised by Spurs decline. It has coincided with Capello leaving the England job and Redknapp being touted for it, whether that has destabilised the team, only those inside can say. If Redknapp can't lift his team after a loss or two, is he the man for England, when, especially in tournaments, a team can't afford to lose too many games. ![]()
Redhead17 you read my mind mate as far as concerns for Redknapp go ... I dont think a manager worth his salt should allow talk about his possible leaving destabilise a team so much and if he is the wonder man he really should be able to garner some stability after a loss or two, especially as he has control over the players in the team and some money spent (rather than the English team where he has a set list of players and a small amount of time with the team together), so the Spurs implosion (its worse than a decline mate), is so surprising and calls into question his as yet unchallenged but recently less celebrated credentials (his god-like ability in the media has been absent from the papers, forums, TV and radio for some time). In the absence of anyone else I still would go for him though - who else is there?
Tevez was key to Man City's record breaking winning run and he was influential in everything. Once he left (along with Ya Ya's absence in Africa) we collapsed and we are like a different team since he came back. So I honestly think he is was worth double figure points in the 6 months he was missing - which for a team of stars is disconcerting to think we still rely on one man soooo much. He has also elevated Aguero again as a stunning partnership so their whole is much greater than the sum of their two parts. I am pretty much a pessimist as a life long suffering city fan but even I am absolutely confident with no shadow of doubt that we would be several points ahead if he had stayed with us. This questions whether he should be forgiven and begged to stay or we try to build a more stable team and ship him out for his sins in the close season - the answer to that I dont have.
I forgot about Ya Ya Toure being away as well. :-/ That was a big loss too.
I think Tevez has had a good effect on Aguero, but I think Tevez was worth the missed points on his own. I don't think Aguero can sustain a full season yet until he gets used to the Premier League. That said, I'd ship Tevez out and get someone new. If he has done it once, he can do it again. It undermines the manager him being in the team, but then perhaps the damage has been done by letting him play again anyway. City have the money to have left him sitting in the stand pity they didn't stand by their principles.
Another big disappointment has been Silva too. He was stunning at the start of the season. ![]()
Hopefully they can put up a challenge again next season, because I doubt anyone else can challenge Utd. (Manchester
)
It's not all over this season yet though is it. ![]()
I think Barca have gone right off the boil, but well done Chel$ki. Credit them for not giving up. I don't think anyone would have gave them a chance 5 minutes before half time.
Great goal by Ramires. ![]()
A penalty miss by Messi. He didn't have a good game again against a English team again. ![]()
Good goal by Torres to wrap it up. Doesn't quite make up for the last 18 months, despite what the commentators say. Now to score the winning goal in the final.
lol
Quote: Can't keep winning forever, bit like [Manchester] United (most should know who I mean) how boring would that be?
Ha! Well, just in case they don't ![]()
p.s. - Well done Chelski. Missed some of first half and didn't realise Terry had been told to walk which made the result all the more impressive.
As a point of information, do all players who have received a 1 match ban from the final get a medal if their team wins? I see that Terry will be allowed to collect the cup and recieve a medal if Chelsea win. I had always thought the medals went to the team and the subs.
When Roy Keane and Paul Scholes were banned for the final and United won, they didn't receive medals directly. However UEFA gave United more medals than the 16 in the squad on the day, so the club gave them medals later. Although apparently Keane doesn't consider himself a Champions League winner.
