Not the greatest advert for English football, but the best team won. :-/

I fully expected Torres to come on and get the winner, just to top it off. Sad lol

The sooner they get the football schedule sorted out so that it is like what it used to be, the better. End of the league, gap of at least a week, and then the Cup Final. 5.15pm Kick-off. A damned disgrace. Those poor Liverpool supporters travelling back north into the night. At least when we got stuffed at Wembley in 1974, I forget by who, we were able to roar off from London at about 5.30pm., heading for our beds to cry our hearts out.

Actually we got to the local about 8.30pm to face the locals - Leeds Utd. supporters. After all in 1973 we had supported Sunderland against them, so we had to let them have pay back time.Grin

I think there are a couple of games on today. Wonder who is playing ? Don't know whether to check, or go and play crocquet.SmileTongueWink

the reason the schedule is like it is is down to the people at sky and their television rights once again down to money

Yes, I was aware of that. Money as usual. The league used to finish then there was roughly a 2 week gap before the final, which led to a nice big build up, even if your own team was not at Wembley. I know it was always the 1st Sat. in May, then they dropped it back, yet again.

I agree, the FA Cup should be after the season is over. And it should always be at 3pm. There is no good reason for the FA Cup Final to be before the season is over imho.

The FA apparently did surveys to ascertain when the kick off should be. I think they may have been surveying the TV companies and sponsors. :-/

It keeps on being said that the FA Cup is losing it's specialness, well if they don't treat it special, what do they expect! Play about with traditions, and people stop thinking the events are special, and find other things to do. Sad

As for the travelling by trains, that's scandalous. More often that not there is a team in the final from outside of London, and more specifically north of Birmingham, any engineering work or scheduling has to take that into account. Of course all the chaos would have been easier to take had Liverpool won I think, as it is... Sad

There has been too much playing around with fixtures for TV, but that is one of the things that was given up for the money. And money rules as we know. Sad

With all the messing about with the Champions League, without my teams involvement SadGrin I can't be bothered to try and follow it. Having one teams game on Wed one week, and Tues the next, and the coverage split between ITV and Sky is a pita, and like I said, I can't be bothered. You have to try and get a team to follow and feel affinity with if your team is not there imho, I for one tend not to default to another English team. Wink lol

And then they stick the final on a Saturday when it has always been on a Wednesday. :-(

The Europa League has been a bit more stable, in the latter stages anyway at least, for TV coverage.

The fat lady has cleared her throat at Newcastle .... The last thing we need now is for city to go all rollercoaster at QPR as we are used to. Barring a disaster we have the title now firmly in our grasp !!!

To quote a certain Mr James May. Oh, ****!
Newcastle, where were you when English football needed you most?
I am not a United fan, but at least they have not bought the title with a chequebook.
A sad day if Man Shitty win the league.Sad
And I said the same when Chel$ki won the league.

Especially for saltireblue..................... Some interesting figures and points on FFP

Quote: From 1988-91, United spent £15.2m = 1.62x their 1989 revenue of £9.4m. That's the equivalent of United spending £533m today.
So United were allowed to spend first in order to grow, & continue spending freely for next 2 decades. But City will be banned from doing same. Also, Martin Edwards borrowed the money to fund that investment in players, just like Sheikh Mansour has with City.
The money was borrowed not self-financed. Utd were allowed to do something that City won't be allowed to do, i.e. carry on spending. Utd were allowed to spend first in order to become more successful, and they were allowed to continue spending without any limitations on how much they spent. And it also disproves the myth that Utd didn't spend in order to become successful under fergie.
Uniteds revenue was £9.4m in 1989. Uniteds revenue is now £330m. He invested first in order to grow. It only became self-financing AFTER Utd had grown. But these new FFP rules actually bans clubs from investing first in order to grow.
Utd spent 1.62x their revenue, which equates to a huge amount today and Utd would not have met FFP rules in 1989. Obviously there is inflation but that is almost equivalent to City-style spending
Utd basically bought an entire new first team (in fact the XI fielded v MCFC in the 5-1 defeat was the most expensively assembled team then), and they spent a huge amount doing so, and that new first team went on to win trophy after trophy from 1992 onwards. THAT was the team that started Utd's success.
FFP has been specifically designed to stop clubs like City and Chelsea from outspending rivals. FFP has been designed to stop smaller clubs from being able to compete with bigger clubs. And the people who negotiated it with UEFA were the ECA exec board, which consists of David Gill (Man United Chief Exec), Rummenigge, and CEOs/presidents from Real, Barca, AC, Inter etc.
City have spent first in order to grow, but we won't be allowed to continue spending, so our growth will be curtailed by FFP. MUFC didn't have that limitation that MCFC have.
The point being that why did the rules change to stop MCFC being able to spend money?
The answer: It's because of this bunch of biased club executives below:
    http://www.ecaeurope.com/about-eca/eca-executive-board/
These were the ones who negotiated FFP with Platini, and surprise surprise they managed to get FFP designed in such a way that it stops clubs like City from being able to compete financially with Utd, Bayern, Real, Barca, AC and Inter - the exact teams who have representatives on the ECA exec board. Keep the big teams big and the poor teams poor. Changing the rules to stop certain teams being able to compete is called "cheating", I think you'll find.

Every team who have won the premier league have bought it !

What the hell is the last post ? An excerpt from Encyclo. Britannica ? I will read it tomorrow, pcheywood.Wink
