First, apologies if this has been answered elesewhere but I've searched the forums and can't find an answer.
Has anyone managed to get the latest version of Camera Raw (3.4) to open files from the 30D? I have downloaded the update and followed the Adobe instructions to put the Camera Raw.8BI file into the correct place. Now, every time I try to open up either a .CR2 file from the 30D or a .CRW from the 300D, I get a message "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document". If I put the old Camera Raw.8bi file back, I can open the .CRW files but not the .CR2 files.
Anyone got it working on Windows?
It might be a corrupted download - but I doubt it. Download it again and compare the file sizes.
ACR 3.4 and my 30D/CR2 files get along fine.
Double check where you put the .8bi file - there was a thread on this in the past week.
Put it here: c:\program files\common files\Adobe\plug-ins\CS2\file formats
and adding it here for luck:
C:\program files/adobe/adobe photoshop CS2/plug-ins/file formats.
I can open 30D files but only via Adobe Bridge if I try and open one direct into CS2 it closes the whole application ![]()
No doubt I've done something wrong in downloading etc but I just thought trying to put it right would probably only make it worse so I've left it alone.
An update to this issue.
I've been on the phone to Adobe Tech Support 3 times. The first time they wouldn't speak to me because I had 4 digits missing from my serial number - CS2 doesn't show you the last 4 digits when you do help/about, so I had to go and look for the CD to get the full serial number.
The second time I phoned, I gave all my details and details of the problem and the bloke on the other end of the phone (didn't get his name) said he would do some investigation and drop me an e-mail with things to try.
2 days later with no sign of an e-mail, I phoned again.
The third guy, Robert, took details of the problem and my machine spec and got me to put the camera raw.8bi file back into place (where I have had it before). He also got me to rename the CS2 settings file so that CS2 would re-create it and start with default settings. That didn't work. Because I had Adobe installed on my D: drive, not C:, he has suggested that I uninstall and reinstall - typical Tech Support answer - I know because I work in Tech Support! As CS2 all works fine and Camera Raw 3.2 also works fine when everything is installed on the D: drive, I'm not going to do this. So, after several phone calls and IMHO, some poor service, Camera Raw 3.4 still ain't working on my machine. He then phoned me back a little later and suggested that I could boot my machine into SAFE MODE, make sure that hidden driver files could be viewed and remove all the drivers, reboot backinto normal mode and let Windows re-find all the hardware and re-install drivers. He also said that this wasn't an Adobe Tech Support answer but something his brother suggested doing and if it broke my machine, tough! Needless to say, I won't be doing that either, just to get Camera Raw 3.4 working. So, it looks like I'm looking for another way to process my 30D Raw files.
You might try downloading Rawshooter Essentials while you still can; it works with my 5D so it may well work with your 30D; doesn't take long to download and it is still free.
Peter.
Although I don't have a 30D sadly I think you are right; I just had a look here
and there is no mention of the 30D. Peter.
Downloaded it and it does open the 30D files but I've ended up with an image split into 4 in the middle of the screen and weird colours! Not sure if it's working properly or not - guess I'll have to RTFM! I already have ZoomBrowser (Canon software) which allows me to open the files, but I liked Camera Raw and really wanted to get it working - particularly when Adobe say the 30D is supported!
Another update.
I've been in e-mail contact with Adobe tech support this week. They've got me to try a couple of things that didn't work, including downloading the Camera Raw plug-in again! They then asked me to send them one of the files I couldn't open. Guess what? They can't open it either! Looks like my issue is going to be escalated to the next level up. More updates to follow as I get them.
