I would be shocked if it could be hacked to do that.
Goodness - It really depends upon how Canon have designed the electronics.
If live view is important to you, sell the 30D, and buy the 40D.
May be possible.
There was a version of the 30D with live view wasn't there? Could be a software hack to enable it.

Apparently so - I read something about that yesterday. Trying to find it again.
Can't find it now - it did surprise me at the time so maybe it's duff information.
There was an a version of the 20D with live view and the IR filter removed for astronomy.
I do not think you can have live view with the 30D as it will require a mirro mechre-design. The 30D has to power the mirror to keep it open, so current drain in live view would be bad. Also I think you need a re-design of the sensor electronics to support real time reading and video.
there was a 20da that had live view ,not 30d .

I would think that the power drain from the mirror would be small compared to the power drain from having the sensor and screen running at the same time. Still high battery consumption is not a show stopper - you just need to buy more bateries
ok ty for the inputs.
seems ill have to seel my canon 30D. damn thing is brand new too!! argh
On my old 300D using mirror lock has a massive impact on battery life.
To the OP, I like live view etc, but it may be worth having a play with one to decide if its realy worth it before you sell, it could be an expensive upgrade.
ty for the advice. i think ill go try one out.
