350D Flash Problems

I usually use a film Dynax 7 for studio work, however I thought I'd try some digital shots using my 350D.
I have portaflash studio lighting, and I bought a radio trigger to fit the hotshoe of the 350d.
My problem is the fastest sync speed I can get is 1/60, which although usuable isn't ideal. I have tried the 2nd curtain sync setting but still find the maximum sync speed 1/60.

Anyone resolved this issue or have any advice on achieveing a faster shutter speed
thanks
Mo

By DPReview X-Sync. speed is 1/200.....

Could it be that the transmiter is to blame?

P.S. What program do you use (P,Av, Tv, M)?

I always use program M, I suppose it could be the trigger but I didn't want to go and get another one just to rule it out.
I may see if I can get a hold of another camera to try it on
