    What is the best 35mm slide mount to use for make the sandwich? I would like to make sure that the two slides remain close enough to each other so that they both will focus.

    The thinnest mounts are about 1.6mm thick so it would be better to mount the two pieces of film in one slide frame or shoot them individually using the multiple exposure feature on your camera (assuming you have one or can manually **** the shutter without advancing the film).
