Just to let everyone know that while you can pre-order the Canon 400D online at jessops for £719 (with the kit lens), you can get the same thing on play.com for £519!

As long as it has a European Warranty.........
Check again at Jessops, price now £649 and play.com £469.
£469 with lens kit? WOW!
The £469 is body only I think.
still great value for a new camera, me think...;o)
To be honest it should in the end cost less than the 350D, so the Jessops price is way out of step.
PlayCom is a Jersey based company. Is part of the reason for this reduction VAT etc. ?
gotta buy a couple at that price!
That price is exclusive of VAT (from Play's T& C's "If your delivery address is outside of Jersey, you may be subject to import duties and taxes")
Still makes it somewhat cheaper, but it will almost certainly be a grey import so beware of warrantee issues (See below another T&C snippet)
"All electrical products are covered by a twelve month manufacturer's warranty. If your product develops a fault while under warranty, please contact Play.com and we will advise you where to send it for repair. It is a "return to base" warranty therefore there will be a delivery charge to return the product back to the relevant UK service centre"
If you hang on a bit, the price should drop by around £100, all Canon's other SLR's come in at a similar UK price to US prices, so the same should occur with the 400D, once the must have it now brigade have got hold of theirs.
I've bought plenty of CDs/DVDs from Play.com and I'm sure you don't have to worry about import duty or anything like that. They don't mention it anywhere anyway. Plenty of companies operate out of the channel islands, it's all kosher.
Quote: They don't mention it anywhere anyway
Yes they do, as I quoted before it's in the terms and conditions (although most people don't dig that far into the small print).
There is a big difference between a cheap CD, which falls under the threshold of paying import duties and VAT, and an expensive item like a camera.
Paul (cambirder) a very informative and helpful reply. Thanks
7dayshop ship their stuff in batches so each batch is less than the threshold for duty/vat, which I believe is £17.something.
I doubt play.com could get away with this, shipping a 500 quid camera.
