It's amazing how some peoples' daily activities can shock others so much. Truly harrowing images.

No more harrowing than a pig, cow, lamb, or chicken being slaughtered.

One person's drug is another person's poison...sort of.

And that's from a dog owner.

Disgusting.

Slaughter houses kill animals in a humane and hygienic way. This is neither.

(great photo's though - hopefully they will help put and end to this)

Here here! I couldnt help but view them all, but feel sick at this! A very brave photographer, but i couldnt stand there and shoot away seeing a defenseless animal tortured.

Very, very disturbing images. But great photography nonetheless.

Clearly these practices are grotesque by our standards in the West. But are they fairly standard in China or are they grotesque even by their standards? I really don't know, but would be interested if anyone has any insight. Would most Chinese people recoil at the images in the way that we do?

Have recently read a dissertation by a Chinese student about the practice of eating dog, very common in China but so hard for our sensitivities to take. Grotesque images, and I'd like to hope that this isn't how they all meet their end. Amazing reportage just the same.

Agree, appalling photo's. However I dont see any problem in eating animals be it dog, cat, cow, monkey etc as long as it's killed in a humane way.

I have made my point before about western attitudes towards animals but why is it that these photo's, as grotesque as they are, are offensive when we in the west are quite happy about dunking Crab and Lobster etc into boiling water, or dragging 4 tons of fish in a net along the bed of the sea for four hours and then dump them on deck and allow them to gasp to death, and then in a lot of cases just tip all the unwanted residue back in the sea.
