I finally replaced my stolen Nikon FE today with an FM3a (that's a film camera, kids
), and to commemorate I thought I'd suggest an idea for a meet I've had for a while...
I don't know what to call it - back to basics meet, the 'one' meet, whatever - but I'm wondering if anyone is interested in a 'one camera, one lens' meet? I've been on one epz meet, and seen photographs of other meets, and they always seem to be an opportunity for participants to turn up with every piece of top end equipment they own, and usually enough for a 6 month National Geographic assignment. My idea is for a 'one camera, one lens' meet, whereby the participants bring just that. No big bags full of thousands of £££s of 'L' lenses. No backups. No flash and Gary Fong rubbish stuck to it.
My original idea was for it to be film only, but I wouldn't want to exclude people who'd like to join in but only have digital. So my equipment criteria would read something like this:
Camera : One camera body, preferably film, but digital allowed. Even if you don't own a film camera, consider getting on from ebay for 20 quid. Bring a Holga. buy 3 disposables. Whatever.
Lens : One lens. Preferably a prime, but one zoom allowed if only option. A modest standard zoom would be preferable to a an 18-300 superzoom, which I feel is against the spirit of the idea.
No Tripods.
The idea is to put an emphasis on people and photography, and to draw people out of their comfort zone of having all their digital equipment with them.
I don't have a specific date or location in mind. I suggest London as it's easy to get to and I have an urban shoot in mind, but I don't mind either if it's Brighton, Hastings or Croydon. Just not fields or wildlife centres, not my cup of tea!
I want to see how many people might be interested before putting any locations or dates together.
Register any interest here. This could, of course, die on it's backside in the most hideous way possible...
Steve
Depending on dates, I'd be interested as me and a few friends are already doing something similar...
Get them put on CD when you get it developed Carl... usually about £1 extra ![]()
Mark, that's great.
Carl, a lot of places will make scans at the time of processing, although obviously it adds to the cost. Alternatively, I'd be happy to make some scans for you (within reason!).
Anyone else?
Grand idea...! very interested Steve...date dependant.. actually expecting a film type machine to arrive shortly, would love to try it under those limitations..!
Kevin.
I`m well up for this dependant on the date. Although I will be shooting with digital, I am more than happy to dust off and bring along a film camera body or two and lens to lend out for anyone that would like to use the day. Please avoid May 17 and Aug 10
I like the sound of this one, it's an excellent idea.
Torn between D200 and 50mm or 10-20mm.
If funds/time allow, I may even get a cheap film camera from ebay.
I'm dependant on venue/date but I would hope I could make it.
Sounds cool.
Brighton would be good...never been there but I reckon it would be more interesting than London.
I would also go for the D200 - 50mm combo ( it's what I mostly use anyway... ). I do have an old Olympus but I don't know if it works or not...
Put me down as a definate maybe ( depending on the day and if I have anything else on... )
And I WILL try to make this one...
Nik
This is great, some really good interest. That's 9 of us already if we can agree a time and place. Lets move it on.
Firstly.. Ladies! Where are you? Don't be shy, we need some balance here.
Second.. hands up for London, and hands up for Brighton.
Is everyone pretty much confined to Saturdays for this sort of thing? I'm fortunate to be able to do mid week (Weds-Fri usually) but work most Saturday mornings. That can be re-arranged though. Rather than rush into it, it's probably best to give people a little time to make arrangements, and I have a few things on at the weekends in May. What about June? Say first weekend (7th)?
Quote: hands up for Brighton.
Is good for me, but not averse to travel.
