A question for the well-travelled...

27 Feb 2008 9:09PM

Hopefully the well-travelled people here will be able to chip-in and help...

I've been charged with finding cheap! accommodation as close to the Parc del F˛rum in Barcelona as possible for myself, camera, lenses and laptop for a music festival I'll be covering over there at the end of May. All I need is a bed, a shower, and a door that locks. Some form of WiFi would be handy too! Wink

The problem is I haven't a clue where to start, and google searches so far haven't been all that fruitful.

If anyone can recommend either a good place to start looking, or a particular hotel/apartment/spare room with a lock, I'd be very, very grateful.

The emphasis is on CHEAP!!! Smile

Thanks in advance!

Having a look NOW!

Any other suggestions?

Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, Time Out, Last Minute, Expedia and sites of that ilk

Oh dear. My Spanish isn't all that good (I get by with a phrase book, pictionary style drawings and plenty of apologies!) but that page only appears to have contact details for the Barcelona wing of the YMCA and their camping holidays.

A google search for YMCA hostel barcelona isn't all that fruitful either.

Thanks though. It's a start at least.

Any other suggestions?

Cheers Jim. I'll take a good look through those.

Try or . I prefer hostelworld myself - have used them loads of times all over the world. I would rate Rough Guide better than Lonely Planet too.

I've used http://www.hostels.com to find hostels in the past with good success.

The thing that worries me about hostels is security. Most have safe deposit boxes, but you'd never fit a laptop in one.

What have your experiences been like in this respect? (Does that sentence even make sense? My eyes hurt!)

I've never had a problem personally. WHen you look up hostels on either website you can see a breakdown of what they offer. You could choose one with a high security rating or one that provides lockers free of charge. Many hostels now also offer free wi-fi access.
