    Can someone tell me how to adjust both the appature and shutter speed at the same time on a nikon d3100 please.

    You may also need to check the manual to learn how to use the camera's exposure meter when in Manual mode.

    An alternative is to leave it on Av/Tv and use exposure compensation.

    Set the mode selecter to P for program. When you set one, the other adjusts automatically.

    You can do the same thing in Av/Tv (on Canon cameras anyway).
    Press 'AE Lock' then when you turn the dial to change aperture (or shutter speed in Tv) it maintains the exposure by altering the other. It all comes down to why eddie wants to do this.
