    Hi All,

Do any of you know if Adobe Camera Raw is compatible with either Photoshop Elements version 1 or 2? Or does is only work with CS? (After reading around I am not 100% sure.)

Also, what is your favourite software package for converting RAW images? (I have just got my first DSLR so am weighing up the pros/cons of each package).

    Many thanks

    Rich.

Photoshop elements is a cutdown version of photoshop itself, so in theory i would have thought if it works with one package it would work with the others. Adobe have released raw updates for cameras brought out after photoshop cs was released.
I use CS with my Fuji S2. Hope this is helpful, Adobe do have a forum page that you may wish to look at as it may be a lot more helpful.

Sorry, ACR only works with CS.

What camera do you have? Recommendations for a RAW converter may well differ accordingly.

    Tim,

Thanks for confirming this. I have a Nikon D100. I will be trying out Nikon Capture anyway but if you or anyone else has some recommendations I would like to hear them.

    Cheers

    Rich.

    Rich,

    There are several options then:

Capture One. A free trial is available for download.

    Bibble

BreezeBrowser. This is more of a Canon product, but can do "basic RAW conversion" of Nikon files.

There may be more, but those are the ones I'm familiar with. Breeze is Windows only, as is the LE edition of C1, but the others - Bibble and C1 Pro and C1 SE can be had for Mac and Wintel.

    Tim,

Thanks very much for the info. I hadn't heard of Bibble so I will add this one to the list to try out as well.

    Cheers

    Rich.

    Question for Tim Franklin

Is the Capture One software a better alternative to the Nikon Capture software? Does produce better quality images (I think this may have somethgin to do with interpolation - i.e. some software is better than others?)

Just wondering if it os worth getting for a Digital Studio I am setting up (for fun use, not commercial!!)

    Thanks

    Keith

    Keith,
You'd have to ask a Nikon user that. I'm a Canon man! Wink

    Keith,
As a Canon and Nikon man, I can tell you that Capture One is better than any other conversion software out there.
    Keith

I reckon the new Canon converter gives it a run for its money though. It'd likely cost me 199 +25% VAT to upgrade to C1 Pro 3.5 - with the Canon DPP costing zilch I may leave it a while.

Is the new canon RAW converter available for download? and if so does it work with the 300D? Or am I stuck with the awful file viewer utility?

    Thanks

I read that the next update will include the 10D and 300D.

Thanks-I take it thats a no at the momentSmile

    Michael

    Michael,
There are two new pieces of software from Canon. The one above is Digital Photo Professional, which is only for 1D, 1D Mk II, and 1Ds owners.

The second, which supports all the above plus D30, D60, 10D and 300D is called EOS Viewer Utility. I have only downloaded DPP, so can't comment on EVL.
