Firstly - Does anyone use this software? Does it do what it say on the tin?
Have been itching to try RAW (with my Nikon D60) but View NX won't run on my (ancient) PC (not enough RAM). Have just found this `free' software and managed to convert 2 test files, which I've saved to my PC as .dng files.
Am I right in thinking that I can now process the file (as normal) and then save it as a jpeg when I want to print/upload it here say? (I use Picasa 3 for my feeble post production work!
)
There doesn't seem to be any help feature with it so I would appreciate your help or pointer to where I can read up.

All this software does is convert RAW files from the camera's raw format (Nikon in your case) to Adobe's RAW format (.dng). In order to process these files, the software you are using still needs to be able to support Adobe's RAW format.
If you use the latest version of Picassa (3.6), it should support both Nikon's RAW format & Adobe's .DNG format.

Hi Jeff, ACR and DNG are different. DNG convertor will convert your Nikon 'NEF' RAW files to DNG a format that can can be read by a number of programs but specifically Adobe ones, it is supposed to be future proof. Unless you have a recent Adobe photo editing program such as Adobe Elements 7,8 or Adobe CS4 (and now CS5) you wont be able to use Adobe camera Raw. You will probabally find that if you have been struggling (with old PC) with View NX then you will struggle with either of the Adobe programes.

Thanks, guys

The program icon shows as Adobe DNG converter so assume I'm just using that bit. I've been able to `open' the dng files in Picasa (yes..am using 3.6).
That sounds great....not sure I want to spend a whole lot of money on fancy software yet. Will see if raw gives me better quality...
Thanks for the quick response...am off to Istanbul tonight, so hope to be able to pack in some reasonable shots
cheers
