Problem on laprop and deasktop. Both machines running Win. 7 Pro. which was clean installed about 12 mths ago. Previous OS on both machines was Vista.
Recently unable to install updates to Adobe flash player, error message was that there is a conflict with sidebar which needs to be shut before proceeding. This persisted so tried to delete Flash player in order to install fresh. Flash player will not uninstall with the error message requesting sidebar to be shut down. Nothing else running.
In Vista there is a side bar for gagets, but not in Win 7. Unable to find the programe for side bar to install.
    Grateful for advise and thanks.

Ctrl-Alt-Del, then select Start Task Manager. Select the second tab (Processes), scroll down to Sidebar, right click it and select End Process Tree.

No idea if this will solve your problem, but it should kill the Sidebar

CTRL + SHIFT + ESC is task manager.....

It sounds like a x64 conflict. - check that everything you are running is the correct version.

People, many thanks. Just completed downloading and installing Flash Player v11 without problem on the desktop. Did not have to uninstall and reinstall. Will attend to the laptop later

Do not what the problem was, following Big Bri, Flash Player doen loaded. Do not know getting rid of the Sidebar Tree does. All gagets vanished until I right click on the desktop and clicked on gagets which returned the gagets.. Task mgr processes does not now show sidebar tree. However, flash player has been updated.
