I'm in the market for a new 'digital darkroom' and quite fancied the new Adobe Photoshop CS 2.
Whilst the UK shop retail value is over 350 I discovered that you can buy it on ebay for less than 50 !!!!

I'm a bit worried about the authenticity of such bargains.

Can anyone vouch for the above mentioned or should I stay clear of them?

Can anyone suggest a reputable outlet? Please help.

They're cracks. Adobe Photoshop CS is aimed at studios and proffesionals - ie, people who will be making money from using it, hence the premium price.

Adobe Essentials is the cut down version aimed at enthusiasts and, as such, has a more consumer friendly price. Check the specs of Essentials first and decide wether you really need the extra functionality of CS......... chances are you'll happily live without them in favour of 300 quid in your pocket!

Check out Paint Shop Pro X. Powerfull peice of software at a reasonable price. Try the 30 day trail before spending your money. If it fits the bill buy it.

CS 2 is great, well worth the money but does take a while to get the hang of it, if ever LOL

The cheapest legal way to get hold of PS CS2 is to get an unused, unregistered old version of Photoshop - eg version 6 - and then the CS2 upgrade which is about 130-140. I did this and everything wotked fine and CS2 activated with no problems.

Or try the GIMP (at gimp.org)

It's freeware and supposed to be pretty good. I've never used it, but know quite a few people who do. It does a lot of the same thing PS does.

Thanks for the comments and advice.

I suppose that, if I don't want to pay a premium and I want peace of mind, it's a toss-up between Elements and PSP.
    But which one?

I have both Elements (v.4) and PSP (v.8) and I prefer PSP - a lot more powerful than Elements. PSP is a fair bit slower I think, but it's easier to use.

Download the trial versions of both and see which one you prefer.
