    Hi Ian

I find this quite good, it is one of the "Visual quickstart guides"

Photoshop 6 for windows & Macintosh
by Elaine Weinman & Peter Lourekas
    published by Peachpit Press

    ISBN 0-201-71309-8

    Hope this helps

    Peter

Ian, a starting point would be to look through the reviews here on this site.

I have always found the Martin Evening books to be very good, likewise those by Mikkel Aaland.

I think a certain mr Pete Bargh has done some Adobe Photoshop books, might be worth serching Pete's name and see what that throws up too.

He has indeed! I didn't realise it, but I have the dubious pleasure of owning one! Wink Funnily enough, when I saw one of his shots here the other day (The bicycle sculpture in the woods), I thought, I've got an identical shot to that in one of my books! Wink

I have a surplus-to-requirements near mint copy of Martin England's "Adobe Photoshop 6.0 for Photographers" if you're interested Ian.

I also have this book, it's very good. Over 500 pages. If you are interested in a ""as new" copy, make me an offer! Wink

Photoshop Artistry by Haynes & Crumpler is an excellent tutorial based book. It's a bit dry but there is a staggering amount of info in there. Very few 'gimmicky' examples, just good solid technique aimed suarely at getting the best out of photographs. I'd also recommend the Martin Evening book

Once you've got the Image editing side sorted then 'The Digital Printing Handbook' by Tim Daly has lots of creative ideas for how to get them onto paper.
