Inspired by the excellent morning spent at Hilbre yesterday in the company of Anthony and Matt(waggie), I decided it must be my turn to organise a meet, so here goes.

I am proposing a meet at the Wilfowl & Wetlands Trust centre at link=https://www.wwt.org.uk/visit/martinmere/default.asp]Martin Mere[/link] in Lancashire. This will probably be towards the end of October, when the over-wintering birds return. I am trying to find out if we can get a guide for part of our visit, for those of us who aren't as good as kit-monster at identifying birds for ourselves. I'll need an idea of numbers, which is why I'm starting this off so early to give you chance to keep it clear in your diaries.

For those of you who have never been, or even heard of Martin Mere, it is one of the most important over-wintering areas for all kinds of geese, with 10,000 Pinkfoot geese being a regular count.

Those interested just leave a note here and as I get more details I'll update the thread.

Ian - sounds good, at least your giving our sunburn a chance to cool down eh?

I would be interested, but it will depend on which day you choose, so once you know I can say for sure.

    regards

Aww, Ian, thats so kind, thank you.

My best dates for end of October are:

    Sunday 17th
    Saturday 23rd

    Then into November:

    Saturday 6th
    Sunday 14th

Are any of these any good at all? As much as I would love to come, please dont plan it just to suit me, if the dates are better for the masses on a day I cant make, then go for it, and I'll just have the next one to look forward to. OK?

Saturday October 23rd seems like a good date to start with, we'll pencil that in and see how it fits with the WWT.

A friend of mine will probably be interested in joining us but I won't be able to ask her until the end of August, she's trekking in the Himalayas for six weeks - lucky sod. Am I jealous? You bet!!
