Well I have spent alot of time reading up on my next choice for camera and its now down to Canon 400d ( although felt a little small when I tried it ) Nikon D80 or Pentax K10D.
The top runner at the moment is the Pentax mainly due to the in body shake reduction but has anyone tried the shake reduction on the Pentax K100 and how good is it? is it worth it? or is it ok but I would be better of spending the money on better quality lenses and less on the body ( I know most people would say lenses first )
I just want to know if its worth the wait on the pentax or not... seen as no reviews or even decent previews of it
I Have a KM A2 and the Anti shake has been useful in getting some useable handheld shots where I wouldn't have been able to using another camera . . . However for the majority of my work I prefer to use a tripod and or bracing.
(Note to self Process the Images taken at the Caves at Nerja (25Seconds Braced with A/S - Useable??)
characterboats... so compared to a nikon d80 or canon 400 would you say forget about those and just hold tight...
I am in the same position. About to contact Jessops to see if they have a K10D to try. What pre-production reviews I've seen are very favourable. Look at Cameratown for 100D reviews - which point to Pentax getting their act together. I'm also looking at the 30D, which with rebate is competitive, as well as the D80, or maybe a s/h 20d. The excitement and anxiety of choice!

Well I compared the in-camera of the KM7D with a 200mm lens indoors, with a Canon IS lens at 300mm and the Canon was better AND from memory the Canon was shooting at a slower shutter speed by one stop.
In camera anti-shake systems means you do not have to buy new lenses to make the system work.... most PK lenses will work on the K100 and K10, and I think all Minolta A-mount will works with AS on KM5D/KM7D and the Sony 100.....

I know I am comparing apples with pears, but my Canon S1 IS - which I am looking to supersede witht a dSLR, but never mind - has in-camera IS, which is brilliant. Can hand hold down to 1/2 sec and (not always, admittedly) get sharp shots. It has been invaluable in getting shots in cathedrals where flash and tripods are barred. (Resting the camera on a pew is not always possible) I even got 2 shots and stitched them together of the ceiling in the music library in Siena - holding camera outstretched (you couldn't step into the middle) and looking at the dreaded LCD screen to get the shot.
So, whilst I concede that lens based IS may be better, it's a whole lot more expensive initially. I am working on the basis that in camera IS at the dSLR level will be useful, but I am yet to test this out.

You might not have to wait too long Steve, word is that the K10D started shipping worldwide today. So hopefully in the UK shops soon.
I know the the lens IS solution is better, but for me I cant justify buying a body for about 500-600 but then spending 3 times that on a lens with IS where a decent lens without IS is alot less.
I guess for me I just want to improve on the shots where I cant or dont have the tripod and there isnt a suface to rest against, then maybe in time if the inbody anti shake isnt good enough I can always look to upgrading, but for now i think it would suit me as a cost effective solution

In fact it's more likely to go wrong if its seldom used.
Just Jas, I cannot comment on the Sony solution but in the K10 the anti shake system also provides the sesnor cleaning shake every time it is switched on so I do not think your comment holds water as it is only software inactivity rather than hardware inactivity.
The other thing to take into account when comparing current inbody ASR with in lens is that the K10D system is another step on from the K100D (and sony?) as they are claiming up to 4 stops difference for the K10 and I think ony the most recent IS releases from Canon provide that.
