    Whatever compact you go for,try to get one with a rechargeable battery.I have had a Panasonic and canon compact that took AA batteries which,although easy to obtain,do not last very long.

    I've just got the canon SX50 HS for £299 after cashback, very impressed with it so far for the price. Traded my D90 in for it, still working out the best settings still.

    The ones in the LCE were new (or maybe ex demo). Anyway, a good price.
