    Hi,

Is that the level 2 C & G course? If so, I am completing it at present.

I'll just dig out my course information booklet as there are some options (which are usually decided by the college rather than by you) and I'll get back to you - give me 5 minutes!

    Found it!!!

The course is a year long and you have to complete three modules out of:

    Principles of Photography (Mandatory Unit)
Introduction to Black and White Photography
    Digital Image Making
    Images Without Lenses
    Exploring Colour Photography
    Introduction to Video Production
Introduction to the History of Photography.

As I said your College will probably tell you which modules you have to do apart from the Principles of Photography which is mandatory and is pretty much the same as the Level 1 C & G Photography course. You complete one module a term.

I have completed the Principles of Photography, Introduction to Black and White Photography and the Exploring Colour Photography Modules.

You have to produce 10 prints for each module (the ones for the B & W module have to be printed by yourself in the darkroom) as well as a workbook for each module. We have also had to complete two essays and an exam.

It is a really good course and I have thoroughly enjoyed it, especially working in the darkroom. However, the course is only as good as yout tutor (and to be honest mine is pretty crap) so if you get the chance, meet your tutor beforehand!

I am considering doing the Level 3 course in September (luckily it is with a different tutor!!).

If there is anything else you would like to know, please ask!

    I hope this helps
    Claire x

BLUECOW - I used a digital SLR for the Principles Of Photography module, but you have to use a film camera for the Introduction to B & W module (obviously) and the Exploring Colour Photography module. I'm not too sure about the other modules but can probably find out for you if you want to know!!

SILLYCONGURU - Have you done the Level 3 course? If so what is it like? I don't really know too much about it apart from my current tutor said that it is a lot more technical!

    Claire

Yup, I've just finished the 6924. It is more technical and your images are expected to be (close to) commercial quality.

Miles away from mine in Poole then!!! Ask if you can meet up and have a chat with the tutor before you commit! To be honest, providing you put the work in, its not too difficult a course.

There are 20 units in level 3, but you only do 5 of them. They are:

    Mandatory unit.
001 - The techniques and materials of photo-imaging.

Core units (you do two of these).
002 - The practices of black & white photography.
003 - The practices of colour photography.
004 - The practices of digital imaging.

Optional units (you do two units from one route).
    Studio imaging
    005 - Still life imaging.
    006 - Portrait photgraphy.

    Location imaging
007 - Photography of the landscape.
    008 - Photography of architecture.

    People imaging
    009 - Production of a photo essay.
    010 - Photography of people.

    Media/Design
    011 - Image derivation.
012 - Imaging of action and movement.
    013 - Experimental imaging.
    014 - Constructing images.
    015 - Moving image production.

    Image processing
    016 - Processing services.
017 - Image processing and output.

    Scientific imaging
    018 - Macro photography.
    019 - Natural history photography.
    020 - Investigative photographic techniques.

So, you do 1 madatory unit (which has an associated written exam), 2 core units & 2 optional units. I did units 001, 002, 003, 005 & 006 (the college chose the units).
