Hi....we're looking for a cheap self catering holiday at the begining of May and are considering Alcudia in Mallorca and looking for a nice apartment building adjacent to the S'Albfera nature reserve allowing me to indulge and perhaps re-ignite my passion for bird photography.
...prefer Thomson's or First Choice holidays so looking for a cheapish package deal, quality apartment that T or FC use.

Did anyone go to Alcudia in 2011 ? ...can you reccomend anywhere ?

    ...many thanks....Mike

I stayed in Alcudia in 1972 and there were two hotels there and nothing else. It was brilliant................now, pah!
Just thought I'd let you know Mike. Sorry I can't help.

Yeah..It's changed a bit now Gerry...very very busy, but I don't mind that, no objections to people having a good time and enjoying themselves so long as it doesn't affect me during the early hours.
...may have to re-think and stay in Porta Pollensa and catch bus to S'Albufera.
    ...cheers...Mike

Porta Pollensa used to be a quiet relaxing place, now its built up, massive marina and fast food places.

Hope the better resorts dont go the same way.

    Hi Maggie...Porta Pollensa's great...been many times...whereabouts are you staying ?

...best place I've found for photography is the S'Albufera nature reserve in Alcudia some 10 miles from Porta Pollensa, ....easy to get to if you drive a car or it's on the bus route if you're near town.

Last September 2 weeks of wall to wall sunshine, never known it to rain we go for the sun and tend to mostly eat cheap.

Alcudia is very built up and commercialised but I wouldn't say Porta Pollensa was...you'll love it.

....obviously not as long ago as you dcash Smile
...don't remember it when it was just a beach with no apartments or restaurants. Smile

Some people like to stay in out of the way places but we, like most people, prefer a modicum of facilities.
...a nice apartment to stay in and a few restaurants to eat at.....to each their own Smile

Oh there were apartments, hotels and several restaurants, with a lovely water front views before the vast marina.

There was no coast road from Alcudia, no burger/fish & chip bars either.

As they say Spain went for quantity not quality

In the absence of any reccomendations for Alcudia we've booked in the Flora apartments in Porta Pollensa.
It's a tad more money than I wanted to pay and I'll have to build in transport to and from S'Albufera but it's close to town / restaurants.
We've stayed at the Flora on 2 previous occasions and we cannot rate them too highly.

Everything changes dcash sometimes for better often for worse but I cannot see any reason to criticise Porta Pollensa,

Have a good one Maggie...you're not far from the centre and a few nice restaurants...not far from the old town either, well worth one visit....a walk through the Boquer Valley is good....enjoy.

.....10 of you eh ? ...don't pick up the bar tab too often. Smile

Yes im aware that change happens. I was giving my opinion on how it was and how it is.

    Why can i not criticise?
