    Hi all, computer dummy here,

Recently a motice appeared on my computer to update my browser.
There is the choice between Fire Fow, Chrome, Explorer, Safari and Opera but I havent got a clue what does what or which is best.

I have vista installed along with explorer. I dident want to change anything incase things went wrong (they usually do with me) but a friend says that things are much faster with these new browsers.

    But which one?

Any help / tips would be appreciated.

    John

They all do pretty much the same thing but better than IE. I use Firefox but it's a matter of taste. Try them all. You can alwats uninstall the ones you don't want.

Thanks Rog, do they have any effect on the colours displayed on screen?

I changed from IE to Firefox after some displays and animations stopped working. Everything's fine now.

Depends on your screen, does that. Firefox with the colour-management add-on is probably the best solution if you have a wide-gamut LCD.

Like (I suspect) most on the Forum, I use Firefox. Originally to avoid the security problems with earlier versions of IE; now simply because I am accustomed to it and have no problems with it.

To be honest, most of the browsers you mention are probably OK and will leap-frog each other as new versions are released. (Just like Canon and Nikon cameras! ). Pick one and stick with it, updating as new versions are released.

Not at all Smile, the HP is a wide-gamut I think. The add-on is, I believe, the best solution for enabling colour-management in Firefox because it gives you the option of treating untagged files as sRGB.

Without that, a lot of pictures will still look OTT in colour like they are prone to do in Safari (although you wouldn't always know this unless you know how the original is meant to look of course).

No idea. But my monitor is not calibrated & prints come out exactly as diplayed on screen.

I did use Chrome till it started crashing and refusing to play video clips. I now use Opera and have all my favourite site on the homepage for easy access.

Been using Micrsoft Internet Explorer in all its variants since it first appeared, Its the one I still use and prefer on all levels, No matter what is the current fashion accesory....Smile

Before you ask, Yes I have tried all the others, Yes some are better than others, Firefox may well be the closest to Internet Explorer ( Version 9 ), But there is little to choose and in recent " IT "tests, Firefox fell behind IE9 on many levels of security issues, The other also ran options are just that.....Wink

Like everything else in life, Use what your most comfortable with, Rather than run with the fashion pack....!!!

Always have at least 2 browsers loaded as you never know when one will start to play up or you hit a badly compiled website that functions poorly under some browsers. I've not used IE for years, after it got left behind by the competition. I know its now caught up but have never gone back. I tend to use Opera Mini on my android phone, FF on my Windows machine and Chrome on my Linux netbook.

There is no right answer to which is best, I would suggest trying IE, FF, Chrome and Opera to see which suits you best.

The latest release of Opera is lightning fast and you can configure it to your tastes.
