This Life - because I was their age when it was on, though not a lawyer and living in Newcastle, was reasonably relevant at the time Smile

I think it was a short drama, more than one week, but not long running. Set somewhere in England.

The kids had to go to school each day and not let on that their family was being held. I know I didn't imagine it cos ChrisL kinda remembers it too.

Doesn't ring any bells I'm afraid. I have to visit a whole pile of my wife's relatives this afternoon. Tongue There will be a good spread of ages so I'll ask them.

Another one I liked, that I've just remembered, was Spender with Jimmy Nail. He drove a brilliant Cosworth Sierra in it that made me green with envy especially since my car at the time was an Escort 1.3L

Life On Mars but not its shaky followup, Ashes to ashes, that was terrible, and the ending was an insult to the viewers.

The best drama in the last 10 years however, comes from the fictional Chatworth Estate in Manchester, home to the Gallaghers and the Maguires.

Shameless.

It may have lost the plot a bit when central characters leave suddenly (Debbie joining the army and Carl joining the feds? Please!!!), and the storylines can be so absurd, but it still makes me laugh out loud more than anything else on telly, and the realism blends with the surreal seamlessly.

Have watched Shameless frm the very first episode and this season will be the last to broadcast, which is a shame in a way, but i can see why their calling it a day, many critics say it should have ended years ago, i think thats a bit cruel, but i do see their point.

The final series begins on c4 this tuesday, and a few old faces are said to be returning, like Kev, without Veronica though, and Fiona, without Steve. Lip also makes a comeback, as does Yvonne, who is now seen in emmadale, and Carl Gallagher also makes a return after running out mid series last season (will Carl be played by Elliot or his twin Luke?), and the bitch herself, Monica, will also show up.

Notable absentees include Paddy, Steve, Veronica, Micky and the amazing Sheila, and Chezz, the original barmaid.

Certainly going to miss the chatworth gang when the series ends, but i have all the episdes on dvd in box sets should i need a little fix of Shameless Blush

@ Big Bri. No joy with my wife's relatives, I'm afraid - didn't ring any bells at all. Your search goes on.

Can't help Bri I'm afraid. One not mentioned so far (I hope) is the surreal 'A Very Peculiar Practice' , made from 1986 to 1988 Grin
