    I've just got my Sony nex7 back from repair.and the fault was on the 18-55 kit lens.194 quid to repair it.so I'm not gonna bother,I'm just goin to get a new lens.has anyone got any suggestions to a good lens to go with nex7.

    The general purpose kit zooms are always worth having.

    The 18-55

    I dont personally know the system but a new 18-55 is only £214 on UK stock from amazon

    Its a job to say what would be a good lens, so I`m assuming its wanted for just general purpose.

    That's correct Paul.but I want something better than the kit lens.I used to av the 18-55 with the c3 and wasn't that impressed.

    What kind of lens do you want, what is it needed for.

    Buy into Sony and your choices become limited.

    I don't know how much weight you want to carry around, but the 18-200, either the Sony or the Tamron is a good lens to have. (The Tamron's a bit smaller and lighter).

    You might find the 10-18mm f4 useful though its not cheap, you could always add a cheap and cheerful prime or two, the two cheap Sigma`s are quite good and there both nice and cheap, I use there 19mm.

    When funds permit, I would like a NEX 7, but partner it with the 24mm f1.8 Zeiss Sonnar. I once had a Contax RTS and my 'standard' lens for that was the 35mm f1.4 Zeiss Distagon, which I found to be a wonderful combination. The 24mm would be an equivalent on the NEX. Zooms are useful, but they have limitations in maximum aperture and image quality. If I could only have one lens, it would be the Zeiss and I would use my feet as the zoom control.

    Sony do an adaptor in order that you can use their " A " mount lenses.

    Which I assume also opens up the the range from companies like Sigma, who do " A " mounts, I have their 105 macro lens that fits on the A900 very nicely indeed Smile

    If your happy zooming with your feet, Sigma 19mm f2.8 and 30 F2.8 are cheap and the optical quality is rather top notch......

    The Sigma 30mm f2.8 has become my go to lens for Nex 7, it's a great size and focal length to carry around.

    I've found it's sweet spot to be f7.1 when testing on some landscape images after that it softens up a little.
