For a while, in the eighties, I rented a poky little bedsit in Plymouth, with one awkward little window. One day, hearing a sort of antique aero engine in the sky, sort of a rumbling tractory kind of noise, I looked out just as a Catalina flew by. Talk about surprised. Very lucky it was in just the right bit of sky at that moment.
Not quite the same thing as a Sunderland, but probably as close as you can get now.

When I moved to Southampton in 1962, there were still some old Sunderlands over the other side of So'tob Water at Calshot. One was still afloat moored in the water.
