Howard's suggestions are correct (if you know anything about Japanese phonetic sounds).
Not sure if it's a short or a long 'o' sound, but as most occurrences are short I'd go with that. I'll have to remember to ask a colleauge. I remember learning the katakana and hiragana characters but never made it to the kanji apart from a hnadful of chemical terms.
