Hi there, at the moment I am carrying out a project in which i aim to use nothing but British made camera equipment, so camera, film, tripod, paper...everything. Of course this means having to source a lot of old and obsolete items. Getting hold of the camera hasn't proved to be too difficult as Ensign and Agilux cameras are very much available on ebay. However, does anyone know if any colour print film was ever manufactured in the UK? as this is proving difficult to find out. (by the way i know that ilford still manufacture b+w in the UK)

    Thanks

Can't think of any film - most was either Fuji (Japan) Agfa ( Germany) Kodak (US) and Scotch/3m (Italy)
    here's a few for you
    Tripod Benbo,
    Bag Billingham or CCS,
    Flash Interfit
    Bellows BPM
    Lenses Taylor Hobson
    Filters Lee Filters

    There is Paterson for enlargers.
Ilford did manufacture colour film from 1948 aside from enlargers.
Nice link for them here http://www.photomemorabilia.co.uk/Ilford/Chronology.html#anchor1930

Gratispool was a Glasgow company that gave away free films that only they could process (allegedly). They were paper negative films. But I really don't know if they were manufactured in Scotland or imported and sold under the Gratispool name.

Wasn't Cibachrome made by Ilford? And there was a colour film called Ilfachrome or Ilfochrome. Oddly enough I don't recall Ilford making colour papers.

Loads of info here, for equipment and film, there was quite a few British company`s behind the Ensign name.

Film might be a problem but there no shortage of cheap Ensign Box Brownies still around.

Thanks for the advice, i think i have now sourced everything except for a large supply of film. I have come to terms that any film out there would have expired decadeds ago. Never know, it may give a nice feel to the final images.

Coronet, Standard, Warwick all film cameras and the plate camera Lanchester were all made in Birmingham.

Polaroid once employed 1000 at their factory in Vale of Leven, Dumbarton, and I'm sure they made film as well as cameras. That side of the business closed down a few years ago now, although there is another Polaroid company there nowadays making spectacles. The new instant film made by The Impossible Project is made in Holland.

Lancaster cameras I think, I have one, but Lanchester did make cars in Birmingham.

Yeah, I used to have one - what I remember most about it was the pre-selector gearbox. Quite unique.
