I wonder if there's an entrepeneur out there who'd have the vision to start up production of a British made film SLR?....perhaps under license to say, Leica with an updated version of the R6 for us film enthusiasts?......Naturally it would be a small production line at first, with the accent on superb quality. It would be expensive....(but then so is a Nikon D3s).

Can't be done?.....Well Aston Martin manage it.....a small company manufacturing desirable cars, for which there is around a 2 year world-wide waiting list.

Well some dreams do come true!

Quote: Another Brit oldie is the Corfield Periflex a Leica copy with the interesting TTL periscope mechanism; they pop up sometimes in camera fairs in so-so condition; they had a Leica 39mm screw thread and I seem to remember the lenses weren't bad; I can remember my late father servicing it himself on the kitchen table; try that with today's DSLRs lol.

I've recently picked up a Periflex with a Lumax. The lens is in need of some attention but I'm not brve enough to try and service it myself!

The first 35mm camera I had was an Ilford Advocate camera. It had a metal body and was white and came with a4.5aperture lens but there was another version with 3.5 lens. Derekp

Microcords were a really good Rollei copy, have not seen one for twenty years they must all be in collections. Good luck with the film, at this date, that is going to be a long call as in the 50's and 60's people didn't freeze their film, (no freezers!).

@ filmforever = now the Nikon F5 is down to £500 or less, you'd never be able to compete witha quality film SLR that matched. Even you used someone elses' lens mount with consequent royalties, a helluva tall order. Pity though, love the idea.

Here's a simple but tough challenge. Take photos using nothing but a British digital camera! Grin

I`ve got an old British made Kodak Brownie Six-20.

How about I rip the guts out of an old digicam then mount it inside, would that count CB Smile

Only if the old digicam was British-made as well! Lol! Grin

Kodak made colour and B@W film in their Harrow plant, North West London and it was exported all round the world.

Taylor Hobson made high end tele lenses usually for photo Recci cameras on RAF aircraft during WW-2. The lens elements were all hand ground.
